Philosophy of care
Hillcrest Slinfold offers an holistic model of care and education that is designed to help boys take control of their lives.
The nature of the young men, who are typical of those looked after by Hillcrest, include those who have difficulty managing or expressing their feelings in a socially acceptable fashion. This generally manifests itself in 'challenging behaviour'. These behaviours are consistently confronted by the adults working at Slinfold who ensure that firm, fair boundaries underpin a good parenting approach to care.
Hillcrest Slinfold seeks to maintain stability of placement so that the boys build relationships, enhance their feelings of self worth and develop a desire to learn.

Therapeutic provision
Any therapeutic intervention is only undertaken after careful assessment by suitably qualified practitioners in consultation with all relevant professionals. The Head of Care has a wealth of experience in the management of health and social care service provision. and is also a fully qualified social worker.
The practice is also supported by a Consultant Psychologist attached to the team.
The teams will link up with local authority CAMHS teams to ensure the needs of individuals are fully assessed and met apporpriately. Therapeutic provision can include Art Therapy, Drama Therapy and Music Interaction Therapy.
Education
The School operates a five day week, 39 week year - matching Sussex school term times. Class sizes currently vary from 1 to 4 students, with weekly whole key stage and occasional whole school activities.
The Key Stage 3 class is lead by two teachers for the Core subjects and most of the Foundation subjects, where AQA Unit Awards can be achieved; as well as ASDAN Bronze, Silver and Gold Awards.
Specialist teachers and instructors deliver ICT, DT, PE, music and art. The students also participate in the Licence to Cook Award and experience vocational tasters in construction and vehicle maintenance on a weekly basis.

There is also an excellent vocational provision which the students access on a daily basis and can achieve BTEC Level 1 qualifications in: bricklaying, painting and decorating, carpentry and joinery, plumbing, electrics, vehicle maintenance, catering and sport and leisure.
We operate a ‘Talent Card’ reward points system where the students can earn points in every lesson matched against performance and achieving individual behaviour and social targets as set out in their Individual Education Plan and Individual Behaviour Plan.
