Hillcrest provides a child focused service and is committed to excellence in childcare provision. It is recognised that the young people using Hillcrest's foster homes are the most important people in the fostercare service.

When matching referrals to vacancies we ensure that placements of existing children are not jeopardised in any way and that good childcare practice takes precedence over all other considerations.

We encourage young people to be part of the decision making process and where possible to have a choice of placement, though we appreciate that many of our referrals are for emergency placements.

Hillcrest Foster carers are trained to develop positive relationships with the children's families and can provide supervision of contact when required. Hillcrest Fostercare maintains strong links with the Ofsted registered EBD schools based at Hillcrest's residential children's homes, and so this resource can be used for children who are out of school.

Fostercare professionalsWe also have a psychologist and independent social worker willing to offer consultation to our carers when dealing with particularly complex children.

Foster carers are expected to actively promote the 5 outcomes. Education, school attendance, homework and after-school activities take a high priority. child painting with handsChildren are assisted with contributing to their reviews and LAC material.

Every effort will be made to match children's religious and other cultural needs with those of his or her foster placement.

We can work with our carers to ensure health targets are met, and that performance indicators relating to education, health, and independence are monitored and reported back to placing authorities on a regular basis.

Once approved, all Hillcrest foster carers receive a comprehensive manual which includes guidance on acceptable sanctions, action to take when a child discloses, and recording procedures.

Foster carers are required to commit themselves to regular post-approval training and are offered a choice of monthly support groups in 6 different localities. Once experienced, carers are encouraged to undertake NVQ 3 in Child Care to develop their skills.

Hillcrest Fostercare achieved overall outstanding in our most recent Ofsted Report. To read further details  please click here
